Care Cars provides specialist home to school transport for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Our provision is built on consistency of personnel, rigorous safeguarding practice and detailed route planning undertaken in partnership with families, schools and local authorities.
Transport is not a peripheral matter for the families we serve. It is the first and last experience of the school day, and it determines whether a young person arrives ready to learn. Our provision is designed accordingly.

Care Cars delivers specialist home to school transport across London and the surrounding counties, supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities on journeys to mainstream schools, specialist provisions, independent settings and out of borough placements.
Our practice recognises that transport forms part of a wider package of support around a child. A change of driver, an unfamiliar vehicle or an unexplained delay can materially affect a young person's capacity to engage with the school day. Routes are therefore planned around the individual rather than around operational convenience, and staffing is held consistent wherever it is practicable to do so.
We operate a deliberately small team, which allows the person responsible for planning a route to remain the point of contact throughout. Families, schools and commissioning officers receive direct answers and timely decisions without escalation through intermediaries.
Safeguarding and Compliance
All drivers and passenger assistants hold enhanced DBS clearance with children's barred list checks, undertake safeguarding training and operate under a clear reporting structure to our designated safeguarding lead.
Consistency of Personnel
Families are introduced to their driver and passenger assistant in advance of the first journey, and that team is retained on the route wherever operational circumstances permit.
Preparation and Planning
Each placement begins with a review of the care plan, agreement of handover arrangements, a documented risk assessment and route timings that accommodate foreseeable disruption.

Home to School Transport
Door to door collection and delivery to school or provision, operated on an agreed route with consistent vehicles and consistent staffing throughout the academic year.

Escorted Journeys with a Passenger Assistant
Trained passenger assistants accompany the driver to provide support at handover, during securing and throughout the journey, in accordance with the young person's individual care plan.

Wheelchair Accessible Travel
Vehicles equipped with ramps and tail lifts, fitted with restraint systems certified to recognised standards and operated by staff trained in safe loading and securement.

College and Post-16 Travel
Transport to colleges, sixth forms and specialist placements for young people up to the age of twenty-five named on an Education, Health and Care Plan.

Responsive capacity for respite placements, medical appointments, early collections, exclusions and the unforeseen changes that arise during the school day.
Individual Passenger Profiles
Prior to the first journey we establish a documented profile for each passenger, recording seating requirements, route preferences, communication strategies and known triggers. That profile informs every journey thereafter.

We operate throughout Greater London and into the neighbouring counties, serving mainstream schools, specialist provisions, independent settings and out of borough placements. Where a placement falls outside our established area we will assess the route on its merits rather than declining on the basis of postcode alone.

A Structured Process from Enquiry to Delivery
Step 1
Personalised Assessment
We establish the collection address, destination, required timings and the individual circumstances of the young person, drawing on the care plan and on information provided by the family, the school or the commissioning officer.
Step 2
Route Planning and Costing
A written route plan is issued alongside a fixed price, the accompanying risk assessment and the staffing model proposed for the journey, allowing commissioners and families to evaluate the provision before committing.
Step 3
Introduction to the Team
The allocated driver and passenger assistant are introduced to the family and to the young person ahead of the first journey, establishing familiarity before the placement commences.
Step 4
Ongoing Communication
Departure, delay and arrival are communicated as a matter of routine rather than on request, and any variation to the agreed arrangement is reported to the family and to the school without delay.

We welcome applications from drivers and passenger assistants seeking settled, meaningful work on established routes with familiar passengers.
The attributes we recruit for are patience, reliability and genuine warmth towards young people. Licensing, clearances and training can be arranged for the right candidate; temperament cannot be taught and is assessed carefully at interview.
Successful applicants can expect well-maintained vehicles, a consistent route rather than variable daily assignments, ongoing training and prompt payment.
Drivers
Morning and afternoon school runs on a consistent route, requiring a full UK driving licence, enhanced DBS clearance and the relevant private hire licensing for the boroughs served.
Passenger Assistants
Accompanying the driver to support one or more young people throughout the journey, with training provided in safeguarding, first aid and safe restraint practice.
Experience within SEND
Prior experience in educational, care, health or support settings is welcomed, though it is not a prerequisite where the candidate demonstrates the necessary aptitude.
